Description
First Flight Card of UIVER Memorial Flight commemorating 50 Years of First KLM Flight.
The 50th Anniversary (1983–1984): KLM re-enacted the historic London-to-Melbourne route from 18 December 1983 to 5 February 1984 using a restored DC-2 bearing the original PH-AJU registration and race number 44. The flight crew included Captain Jan Plesman, grandson of KLM founder Albert Plesman.
The KLM “UIVER” memorial flights commemorate the legendary 1934 flight of the KLM Douglas DC-2 named UIVER (Stork), which won the handicap section of the historic London-to-Melbourne MacRobertson Air Race and was famously rescued by townspeople in Albury, Australia, during a severe storm.
